Francie Hammit
Francie Hammit has been fascinated by art making since she was a child in New Jersey and took a drawing class early on. While going to college in Albuquerque, New Mexico, she studied art and taught, both in New Mexico and Chinle, Arizona on the Navajo Reservation. She often says her students taught her as much as she taught them.
She has always taken art classesin drawing, watercolor, acrylics, pastels or printmakinglearning from instructors and other students along the way. Collage has also been a big part of her work.
Since moving to Bisbee, Francie has joined the Bisbee Arts Commission and continues taking classes at Central School through Cochise College. She also has worked with local artists and taken lessons from them.
Creativity has been Francie’s way of interpreting the world all these years. She listens and her paintings lead her where they want her to go. It is a spiritual journey for her, in which she relies on God to help her get out of the way and let her talent, her gift, choose its own path.
Francie believes it takes courage to create something and she feels she cannot do it all by herself. The support of fellow artists and the fact that she lives in an art community, encourage her to continue to explore and express her own unique vision. Her hope is that people will find her art to be stimulating.
